In a Distant Isle is a study of the early years of a twentieth century poet, Edwin Muir, whose greatness has been widely recognised but who appears not to fit into any particular school or tradition. This book explores the detail of his early years, portraying the remote world he grew up in and relating his experience there to the imagery and thought of his poetry.
