DescriptionPISTOL; A double-barrelled pistol (rat gun) from the early days of fixed centre-fire ammunition. The barrels are mounted side by side and are smooth bore. They swing downwards when a lever in front of the trigger guard is pulled back: an ejector for spent cartridge cases operates automatically. The two firing hammers are set well back on the frame, and operate firing pins in inserts occupying the location of the percussion cap nipples in earlier designs. Also reminiscent of an earlier era is the one-piece wooden chequered stock with its rounded butt. The two triggers, one straight and one curved, are set in a trigger guard with a spur for the second finger below its rear.
