DescriptionCetacean bone weaving batten, complete. The blade has a slight curve, away from the handle; it does not have a point but has a flat end. One side of the blade is curved, the other flat, the lower edge is sharp while the upper is blunt. Two notches are cut into the edges, opposite each other and near to the handle. The handle is ribbed in section and has a lug extending downwards from the end. Use wear is of two sorts. There are small parallel grooves along two of the edges, the sharp edge (the bottom) and on the top on the flat side. The surface of the bone is also polished, along the length of these grooves, on both sides of the blade.
