DescriptionBell, sheet iron folded over and riveted, thought to have been bronze coated. (Curle 467) Corroded; much of lower edge and one side gone. Thought to have been bronze coated on the inside (Curle 1982.50). 225mm high, 175 x 100mm across. Early medieval; "hand-bells of this type were not uncommon in Scotland and are said to have been in use until the 12th century."
