Biography and career of Thomas Groat of Westray, who worked for The Scottish Colportage Society "bringing the Gospel message to the homes of Orkney". The Society was instituted in 1793 and was one of the first religious bodies to take up the question of providing a suitable variety of reading literature for the people. For almost 140 years it has continued to be a medium in forming the tastes and reading habits of the people.
