Lerwick Harbour
-
The history of Lerwick harbour is the history of the Northern North Sea. Long before the days of British naval supremacy hundreds of Dutch herring busses used to congregate in Bressay Sound each summer and as a result of their activities the town of Lerwick was founded over 350 years ago. This book has been written to commemorate the founding of Lerwick Harbour Trust in 1877 but it is far more than a record of the last 100 years- it is a complete history of the port of Lerwick from Viking times to the age of North sea oil.
