The 1851 census of Rousay, Wyre and Eynhallow

The 1851 census provides a contemporary insight into the history of Rousay at a time when the Westside of the island was in the process of the Clearance, instigated by George William Traill (1840-1847) to make way for the modern farm of Westness with its twelve squared fields.
