This reference book describes in detail the seventy-eight neolithic chambered cairns known to exist in the County of Caithness, the north-east coner of the Scottish mainland. The authors list the localities and references for each cairn, and provide a full description of the existing structures, with a summary account of the results of excavation where necessary. A full inventory of the cairns' contents is included and the first half of the book discusses the interpretation and archaeological significnace of the monuments.
