Sketches from John O'Groats in Prose and Verse

James Traill Calder was born in Castletown, Caithness and studied at the University of Edinburgh. After working as a private tutor for the Rev. Mr. Gunn at Caithness, Calder became the parish teacher at Canisbay. This volume contains a chapter on "Ancient Superstitions and Customs in Caithness" and the tale of Catherine Isbister of Stenness.
