This volume traces the long standing relationship between Scotland, The Scots and the sea, from the early historic period to the 21st century. The coastal environment, traditional and modern boat and shipbuilding and maritime trade are discussed, as well as specific ethnological matters such as sea clothing and equipment, the sea vocabulary of fishermen and the role of women in fishing communities.
